RIA Press Conference Regarding Successful Settlement on ThermaPure Lawsuit
In July of 2014, The Restoration Industry Association (RIA) and ThermaPure, Inc. announced the successful settlement of a patent lawsuit that RIA began in January 2013. The litigation settlement is a win/win for RIA and ThermaPure, ending a long standing dispute between the parties wherein ThermaPure sought to protect its patents while the RIA sought certainty as to the scope of ThermaPure\’s infringement charges.
As a result, the “Safe Harbor” clause was created exclusively for RIA members; current members, in good standing, receive immediate and automatic benefit from the terms of the settlement, while non-member restoration contractors receive benefits effective the date they join the association, the release noted.
RIA President Scott Stamper will be kicking off the RIA “Safe Harbor Initiative” during an online press conference. This will include the announcement of the upcoming “Virtual Town Hall” in November for the public to attend. In addition, Stamper will also further discuss RIA’s first major legal action in defense of its members and how this impacts the future of the organization and what it means for RIA members. Members of the press can also send questions ahead of time, although there will also be time for questions and answers at the end of the conference.
